Points of interest along this line....

Mile 0.0 : At Mile 0.0 is the junction switch to the TR Canal Line. It is now removed from service.

Mile 0.3 : At this location is a siding. The line is no longer in place.

Mile 0.8 : This is the back of the John Deere industry.

Operations on this line....

The CP John Deere Lead was built immediately after the Welland Canal relocation project. The line was almost one mile in length. It is on the TR Canal Line at mile 3.5, leading into the rear of the John Deere plant on the Kingsway in Dain City.
     The switch points face south.
Years ago, CN serviced this line, via the TR Canal Line at mile 3.75.
John Deere was originally serviced from the north, prior to the Welland Canal Relocation Project. Where the TR Canal Line crosses over the CN Cayuga Subdivision and the CP Hamilton Subdivision, these two lines didn't exist here, prior to the Welland Canal Relocation Project. The ground was completely dug up and the line ran south from Ontario Street in Welland, which was part of the old lines which originally ran through UCAR Carbon in Welland.
John Deere has not shipped by rail since 1978, though the line still existed until 1999.
During the 1980's and part of the 1990's, the Dain City Intermodal yard used this line to store cars.
The line sat abandoned since 1991 until February of 1999. On February 24, 1999, the switch connecting this line to the TR Canal Line was taken out of service and trackage partially removed.
In November 2001, I spotted the rails being lifted along the back of the John Deere property.
In early September of 2008, John Deere announced that the Welland (Dain City) plant will be closing by the end of 2009.
